Artist's Comments

I just did this for fun while coloring the Cecil backup in Invincible #50. I had a great time reading this series and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Hey man! I have a silly (maybe) question: were the lines made digitally?

By the way, really nice colors. I like your stuff.

Yep. I do everything in photoshop now days. I just got used to drawing on the wacom, which is not easy to master.

Oh I see. I asked 'cause I think the lines of this one are pretty loose. No matter how hard I try, the lines I do digitally don't seem to be as loose as the ones I see from a few people around here.

hahaha! I like this one and the other 2 uploads you made recently. The all digital batman is pretty kool. How long have you been doing digital art on photshop? I was thnking about starting, anything i should know, anywhere recommended to start?

The real trick is figuring out your scale. It's just like using the right size brush for the size paper your working on. The bigger you go the more your going to have to "draw" to make it look right. I just work at comic book size ( roughly 6.75x10.5) at 300 to 400 dpi. This lets me keep the line art loose and flowy.

Good luck!

Thanks! I've been doing it for about 2 years now. I started slow and now I do everything digital. It's hard to say where to start because it all depends on what you want to do. If your doing painted looking stuff, that's the easiest to pull off. Traditional looking comic stuff is the hardest. No matter what you do it will never replace traditional inking. BUT...you can get close enough. It's best to practice with different brushes and different pages sizes and print them out to see how they look on paper.

Good luck!
